My Story

Hi, my name is Jel and I've edited this story to tell you how the RBL helped me. I served in the Army from 1986-1991 in The Royal Regiment of Artillery and my unit was 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.

By taking part on this challenge I'll be raising funds to support the Royal British Legion. Their Poppy Appeal was founded to help those in need following a national crisis.

Right now they are helping those who are isolated from family, facing homelessness, struggling to feed their children and are in financial crisis. They are working tirelessly to ensure that those who have served are being looked after no matter what challenges they, and the country faces.

Back in 2008 when I was quite lost and feeling like I had no idea what to do and where to go in life.

I had tried to get support from local charitable trust, but as I had no fixed abode, this was in vain. I then manged to get in touch with "Civvy Street" and a representative came to visit me and ask what support I needed. I told him that i had no funds at present, was homeless (not on the streets but sofa surfing at friends) and had an opportunity to go on a course to become qualified as a fitness trainer.

Within a couple of days, my course was paid for and also transport and accommodation fees were covered for my course which was in Cardiff. The Royal British Legion also covered my expenses for a second course which was an absolute godsend.

This support allowed me to become a Personal trainer and I would eventually go on to become a level 4 Strength and conditioning coach. I have now worked in the industry for 17 years and own my own business operating in venues outdoors in North London. I have a passion for being outside and love seeing how peoples lives change when they begin to exercise.

I can not imagine how my life could be now with out the support they gave to me back in 2008, what they granted me was a lifechanging amount which wasn't a lot of money. It meant a great deal to me and has given me opportunities that I never dreamed i would have been able to do, thank you so much for supporting my cause and THANK YOU TO THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

Your donation will mean they can continue to provide the life-changing support that our Armed Forces community needs and deserves. Thank You.
