My Story
Hello There,
Thank you for visiting our page! Jack and I have signed up to take part in the Royal British Legion, Pedal to Paris between the 4th and 8th September and we would appreciate and love your support and highlight how this charity helps.
In 2019, I suffere bilateral patella tendon rupture, a challenging injury that has changed my life. The Royal British Legion (RBL) helped play a huge role in helping me recover, return to work and leaving the Forces. Thanks to their support, I was able to serve in the Army for many years after this major injury and traumatic accident.
However, my journey didn’t end there. I am now facing medical discharge after 15 years of dedicated service in the British Army, and the RBL are here for me again. They have continued to aid me in my transition to civilian life, provide guidance and resources to help me with this new chapter.
For those who know me and grew up with me, sport has always been my life. I loved running, I loved the trails and it has been so hard to lose that part of me. I am still not back to running. But cycling has been a big aid in rehabilitation and finding that itch in training.
When I suffered this injury, my world was shattered; it was so incredibly hard to accept my new limits. It has taken immense effort and determination to learn how to walk again and rebuild my confidence in fitness and life. Signing up for this cycle is one of the first steps towards my new future, providing me with something to strive for and helping to bring back some of the old Leanne as I embark on this next chapter of my life.
As I prepare for this challenge, I want to acknowledge that completing this ride will be no easy feat due to my ongoing issues with my injuries. Nevertheless, I am determined to give back to this incredible cause. My goal is to raise £2,000 to support the RBL's vital initiatives, ensuring that no one who has served our country is left behind.
To prepare for this ride and to support other incredible causes we have planned a three stage fundraising journey. This will support great causes but also ultimately help in the huge conditioning needed to be achieved in the training to allow me to partake. Jack will be by my side just as he has been since I first got injured and he took it all in his stride to care for me when I couldn't. It is so nice to be back at a participating ability.
We will be participating in:
🟠The St Giles hospice summer charity ride 🔴The BHF London to Brighton cycle.
🇫🇷Lastly London to Paris with the RBL 🇬🇧
If anyone would like to join us in the training on Zwift, all help is welcome! - Ride On! Or out on the road let us know!
So the bit you probably wanted to read is what do the RBL do: Who are helping those who are isolated from family, facing homelessness, struggling to feed their children and are in financial crisis. They are working tirelessly to ensure that those who have served are being looked after no matter what challenges they, and the country faces. They assist Service Personnel whether they return to work or transition into civilian life. They provide an abundance of support, their unwavering dedication ensures that everyone who has served our country receives the care and support they deserve.
Please spread the word on what the RBL does and if you would like to make a donation your support would be greatly welcomed, allowing the RBL to provide life-changing support to our Armed Forces community. Together, we can help ensure that no one is left behind. Thank you for your time and for considering sponsoring us in this important challenge!
